Echo of Madness

The Echo of Madness is an ethereal being created from pure malice. It is not capable of reason, but knows only of its determination to destroy any human who comes near.

Despite its hollow mind, it is a worthy foe in battle. Its ghostly body allows it to pass through an enemy to strike it from behind!

Behavior

Echoes of Madness follow the player, stopping only shortly to swipe their sword. The Echo of Madness will sometimes glow red and try to position itself on the other side of the player before striking them. Shielding their attacks will briefly pause them, somewhat longer so when executing a perfect guard.

If the player encounters an elite Echo of Madness, a skull will appear over the player's head it's targeting. Then it will surround the player with two more transparent versions of itself that can not be hit. It materialises briefly as it strikes, with the fake version disappearing just before. There is a brief window after the attack during which the Echo can be attacked. After doing this 4 more times (on Hard difficulty), the Echo will stay for a while and behave like its' normal version. After a brief while, it will disappear and repeat the earlier attack pattern. The player is guaranteed to encounter one elite Echo of Madness in Tai Ming.

Trivia

  • The Echo of Madness is most likely Zhamla Meer, due to it's occasional dialogue matching up with with the adult Zhamla Meer you see in the Inner Sanctum, alongside wielding the same blade.
  • The Echo of Madness appear to count as 2 enemies in regards to filling the spawn cap for enemy groups; 3 Echo of Madness stop any other enemies from spawning in Northern Tai Ming.
