How would ya fancy catching me some fresh fish to stock up with?
If player chooses Sure: Ya will? Great! I'll let ya have one of me old rods. Not out fishing much these days, anyway.
Go find a lake with fish outside the city. Ye'll figure out how to use it!
If player chooses No:
I see. Guess ya ain't the kind of kid I was looking for then!"

After acquiring the fishing rod:
"I'm all out of fish! Come back later, will ya?"
