"Boo. Yeah, I'm a talking bag. Whoop-de-doo."

Bag is a sentient artifact given to the player by Dad in the opening cutscene. He accompanies the player through their adventures in Grindea. He acts as their trusty companion and bottomless inventory.

Profile

Appearance

Bag appears as a tattered old pouch. He is almost always seen with a bored, uncaring expression on his face. He is primarily a dirty tan shade with a dark green patch on his lower left side, and a matching green drawstring.

Bag has sharp teeth, as seen when he rarely shifts expression, and has the ability to change his eyes from their standard white-and-black to a bright red hue.

Personality

Bag carries a perpetually bored and carefree demeanor. As he is several thousand years old, it is likely that he has "seen it all" and finds most things to be unsurprising. He accepts that he is usually overshadowed by the player, and is quite amused when he is recognized. Though not usually angered by much, he can be easily peeved when he is referred to as an insignificant item.

Bag is a family heirloom, passed down through generations as a loyal companion to the player's family line. As such, though he remains loyal to the player, he finds no interest in common loot and often keeps his eyes set on rarities. He explains this to the player at the beginning of the game, making it clear that he is only joining them for the sake of the loot. However, Bag does appear to grow a bond with the player, as he did with their father before them.

Plot

Bag first appears in the very beginning of the game, as a gift from Dad. He does not interact with the player until they have left Startington and entered the Pillar Mountains, where he introduces himself. From thereon out, he acts as the player's guide and inventory.

As a sentient artifact that is thousands of years old, he provides the player with vital information. He is also able to translate ancient text, and identify ancient civilizations, such as Tai Ming 1000 years in the past. However, he is not ancient enough to read the texts in Dragonbone Dunes.

Dialogue

First cutscene outside Startington:
"Boo.
Yea, that's right. I'm a talking bag. Whoop-dee-doo.
Look, kid, I know your old man said some heartfelt things back there, but let's set the record straight right away.
I'm in it for the loot. Nothing more, nothing less.
When I offer you my invaluable advice, it won't be because I like you-
-it'll be because as useless as you are now, you'll be even more so if you're dead.
...
You don't talk much, do you?
Well, that's one thing to like about you, I suppose!
Listen, kid. Just do what I say and I'll make you the King/Queen of Collecting!
But all in good time. Let's use these pesky slimes to find out just how weak you are, shall we?"
